Thought of the Day

A City on a Hill

October 15, 2008

I recently saw the movie "Fireproof". I was kind of dragged to the movie somewhat reluctantly. Let me explain. Over the last couple of years I have felt like the "Christian" movement in our country has drifted from Christ to politics. I used to listen to Dr. Dobson's commentaries with a great deal of respect for the biblical wisdom they showed. Lately he seems to only preach about being anti-Obama. I guess the war really tipped me over the edge. Somehow you couldn't fit in if you didn't think the war was a great thing, no matter how many fabrications came to light.

Anyway, I didn't really want to attend a movie that all I knew about it was that it was put out by some Christian group. I wondered if the profit from my ticket would end up in some fund for bashing Obama. Anyway, I ended up going to the movie anyway.

To my surprise, the movie was great. It wasn't great for its acting, directing, or production, but rather it showed the indisputable wisdom of God's way over man's in a simple story of two peoples difficult marriage.

It made me think how powerful a statement it can make when man follows God's path. "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven."

When people help their neighbor, when people help a child, when people give expecting nothing in return - God is glorified. When people use religion to bash people - it's just the opposite.
