Sad but True

"The strong do as they will, the weak suffer what they must"
Thucydides ~ 400 BC
I heard a political commentator quote this today in regards to Russia's actions in Georgia. I guess other less sophisticated people call this same phenomenon the "Law of the Jungle". Reading the paper the last couple of years, it's hard to argue that this isn't true.
It seems like every once in a while, the world starts to get on track to do better than this stone age behavior, but it doesn't last for long. Power and strength seem to corrupt just about anyone or any group that has it for very long. Look at our own country and the noble ideals it was founded on, and then look at some of the things that have happend over the years since then.
It would sure be nice if someday people reading Thucydides would think - "Wow, the world must have been a tough place back then!"
